I am fascinated by your 63 Wilshire. That is definitely the "front edge" of when that body style must have first appeared!

Re: Interesting mini-humbucker stuff
The earliest minihumbuckers (61/62 in particular) are the most underrated pickups in guitar history, in my opinion. They used the same basic materials as the late short-magnet 61/62 PAFs (same magnets, same plain enamel wire). I think there is truly something "magic" about them. I personal...

Re: Unsolicited pitch
Was just looking at the photos on Gruhn's website.
You are absolutely right - that looks to be earlier than a '64.
The multi-piece necks seem to have ended around '61. I think you are right that it could likely be a '61. Definitely a pretty good deal, in my opinion

Re: A pretty blonde '64 Sheraton
Beautiful! The pre-'65 Sheratons and Rivieras are some of the greatest guitars ever to come out of the Kalamazoo factory. Every bit the equal of a pre-65 ES-335/345/355, in my opinion. And definitely extremely rare. I am working on organizing a comprehensive Epi shipping number reference for us, to ...

Re: 1963 Epiphone Wilshire SB-332
Now that is cool! That must be one of the very first ones with that body style. I wonder when the shipping date was on that one. I have been trying to track down when exactly the earliest asymmetrical body / batwing headstock solidbodies first shipped. It seems to be late 1963. Have you ever put in ...

Re: What amp rig do you use with your Epi?
Nice! I love small tube amp combos that have good amounts of gain. I guess I am a child of the '80s :) Right now I play a little 5W Marshall SL5 combo. I love that amp. My two Epis nowadays are the blonde '64 Sheraton and also a '62 Crestwood. Both sound fantastic through that little SL5. You would ...

Timetable of Epi's switch to the "narrow" nut width (1 9/16 inch)
I have recently been doing some research into this subject. One of the "mysteries" of the early Epis is: when exactly did they switch from the "wide" nut width (approximately 1 11/16 inch) to the "narrow" nut width (approximately 1 9/16 inch)? I actually believe the con...

When (approximately) mini humbuckers switched from plain enamel to poly wire
One of the things I am hoping to nail down, in the future, is: when exactly did Gibson switch from plain enamel to poly wire on the mini humbuckers? My gut feeling tells me this will be a similar timetable to the full-sized humbuckers: around 1964 or maybe 1965, with possible exceptions for gold-cov...

Re: A pretty blonde '64 Sheraton
The guitar has a PAF sticker mini humbucker in the bridge, and a patent sticker in the neck. The bridge pickup in this guitar sounds *incredible." And I am a bridge pickup player probably 90+% of the time: http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j75/AlienVintage/blonde64/AFBF011B-7708-434C-B4E3-BFE71...
