Randy Johnston

Randy Johnston is a soul-jazz player who worked with Lionel Hampton, Lou Donaldson, Jack McDuff, Lonnie Smith, Houston Person, Etta Jones, and Joey DeFrancesco. This was a nice CD he released on Muse: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AZZtc7rjM0k/TeKl3VHKCaI/AAAAAAAAA1s/8-qe-XVYBZM/s400/Randy%2BJohnston%2B-...

Phil Upchurch

Phil Upchurch was the player that made me want to get a Sheraton (even though he played a Riviera). The tone he got on the 1967 album "Feeling Blue" (Milestone) has always astonished me. Very fat and throaty, but biting. Phil had so much soul. I'm only finding two cuts from the album on Yo...

Re: I figured it was time...

I've always been a music lover, and grew up listening to a variety of things as a kid in the 60's (I just turned 60). Started playing around 1970, got my first guitar in 1975 when I was in college (! late starter), and started getting interested in blues and jazz. Got into the finer vintage Gibson a...

Re: 1962 Sheraton (cherry)

Thanks, AV. It's great that you started this forum. Well, since I've got more photos, I think I'm going to go ahead and post some more. I hope everybody will share as many pics of their guitars as they can. Nothing like photos from different angles and in different lighting to make you feel like you...

1962 Sheraton (cherry)

Some of you guys have seen this already, but hey... another opportunity to show her off... how can I resist? For years (decades) I was more inclined toward full depth hollowbody Gibson jazz guitars, although I owned some ES-3X5's and enjoyed those too. It wasn't until about five years ago that I rea...

Re: '64 Riviera - relaxing...

Gorgeous. Love that creamy white pickguard against that luscious sunburst. I'm a Sheraton owner, but one of the things that set me on a quest to get one was hearing a couple of great recordings* where Rivieras were actually used. I had heard them years ago, but it wasn't until more recently that I h...

Re: A pretty blonde '64 Sheraton

I am working on organizing a comprehensive Epi shipping number reference for us, to post on this forum (very soon!). The shipping numbers on '60s Sheratons and Rivieras is shockingly low. Great, I'm looking forward to more details. As you may have seen, Purple Jay over on the LPF just posted a book...

Re: Unsolicited pitch

I saw this a few weeks ago. Very unusual for Gruhn to get a date this wrong. This one is very similar to a '60 sunburst that I saw on ebay around 2010. I couldn't afford it at the time (I was told that it sold to a Japanese buyer for $14.5K). Seeing that one was what really started me hunting for a ...
