Epiphone Amplifiers

Postby javamagic » Mon Apr 11, 2016 6:01 pm

Yes, a genuine post. Not trolling, spam or advertising Viagra but a genuine post about Epiphone amps.

I began researching Epiphone's Kalamazoo period about eight years ago with the intention of sending a book proposal to one of the musical instrument reference publishers. The big one (Hal Leonard) only accepts manuscripts from established authors so Catch 22. I tried sending some stuff to Backbeat who publish all the Tony Bacon books and received a response telling me the subject was "too narrow". This from the people who gave us books on the Rickenbacker 12-string and the Million Dollar Les Paul! :?

Anyway, part of my research was into Epiphone's range of amps and while Wally Marx's commendable subsequent book on Gibson amps tells you pretty much all you need to know about those it scarcely mentions their Epiphone counterparts - and certainly not the differences. As my stuff remains unpublished and incomplete (Can anyone recommend a publisher that may be interested in a book covering all Kalamazoo-era Epiphone products - including basses, banjos and mandolins in addition to guitars and amps?) I might as well make some of it available to members of this forum. The amp section runs to 48 pages so I would have to send it as an email attachment to anyone who's interested.

At this point I should declare that it contains probable inaccuracies, some supposition on my part and lacks shipping totals (apart from one model!). It also contains many "borrowed" photographs to illustrate the amps so any official publication would require permissions from the rights holders. Further info, corrections and amendments gratefully received.

If you're interested send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward a copy. :)

Thanks JM for your research on this. I've owned a couple old Epi amps over the decades and they were nice. I had a 1959 or '60 equivalent to a GA-5 and also a 1963 EA-28 (IIRC) Pacemaker amp...both sounded and looked cool! :ugeek:

It's a constantly evolving thing. I found a bit more info on the EA-35 Devon and the EA-100/101 amps just the other day.
