Interesting mini-humbucker stuff

The mini-PAF pickups in my '62 Riviera are louder than any of the full size PAFs in my Gibsons! I found this out when using the Riv in our band's recording session. The Riv pups measure about 6.99K ohms, pretty strong for a mini! :ugeek:

The earliest minihumbuckers (61/62 in particular) are the most underrated pickups in guitar history, in my opinion. They used the same basic materials as the late short-magnet 61/62 PAFs (same magnets, same plain enamel wire). I think there is truly something "magic" about them. I personally find the tone to be full, deep, and dare I say, thick. The other day, I played the '64 Sheraton side-by-side with a mid-'66 ES-335 (with late patent stickers with the poly wire). The '64 Sheraton simply destroyed the '66 ES-335. I think it is the wire and the magnets. The '64 Sheraton, having the gold hardware as Sheratons do, has the older pickups (61/62 era), which must have mostly sat for a few years until they were finally used up.
